Where Have I Been? In The Heights.
Have you ever left a
movie, concert or a play wishing the show would start
over again immediately? Like, you need to
see it again? You just can't get enough of it?? Thats
how I felt the other night after the Broadway opening
of In The Heights.
Check out the above widget (you have to
pump the volume up manually). Those of you in the NYC
area may have already seen this on T.V. — it's the
opening number and is such a fun representation of
the entire score. Lin-Manuel Miranda (the cutie
rapper/ lead singer) wrote the first draft of the
play during his sophomore year at Wesleyan
University. How insane is that? [Insert sarcastic
comment here about what I accomplished
during my sophomore year at Siena College.
Ahem.] Now, he's made it to Broadway and will surely
snag himself a few Tony Awards for his work. I love
absolutely everything about that story.
Go see In The Heights while it's still in
previews. I predict you won't be able to get tickets
come March!

Above: Me, in happier days...
Yesterday was a good day.
I, along with my fellow Mac enthusiasts, spent the
morning watching the clock until the keynote... and
spent the rest of the day
walking on air.
Today? Not a good day.
I woke up to the surreal news that, on June 1st,
Rent will officially end its
run at the Nederlander Theater. I am so sad.
Like, need a new word for sad kind of sad.

Found
this tune over the weekend while listening to
Deliah (in an
obviously uber-sappy moment.)
This girl's voice is so rich -- she reminds me of
what KT Tunstall might sound like
if she were to put her guitar down and relax for a
minute.

The show totally went on for SNL this past Saturday
night—it just wasn't on TV because of the writers'

Give My Regards to Bo...no...
Will
Bono bring Spiderman
to
Broadway?
Bono's experience with director Julie Taymor on the
set of Across the Universe was apparently so
inspiring for the U2 frontman that he's now talking about collaborating
with her on a stage adaptation of
Spiderman. OMFG. What should fans look
forward to, besides an obviously genius final
product? Says Bono:
"If we pull off what we're trying, it will be something the likes of which no one has seen or heard," he says. "It should be a hallucinogenic experience for theatergoers. You have the visual energy she brings. The myth of the arachnid and the elasticity and plasticity of these characters -- you can turn theater upside down."
I'm so in love with him, it's sick.
In other Bono news, he's reportedly working with the Spice Girls on new greatest hits album. (Not sure how I feel about that one yet... I'll let you know when I decide).
Bruuuuuuuuuuce!! on Today
It's good enough, but kind of blurry. Today's site has tons of fun Bruce stuff to check out, including better videos than this one, photo galleries, behind-the scenes footage from the plaza and a cute fan quiz.

The Morning After
Everyone. Thought. Britney. Bombed. (Seriously, guys. Bombed!)
That Perez post I told you about last night? 6,182
comments as of this morning! (See for yourself:
Perezelle) This morning, Perez
gives us his two cents.
Tommy Lee and Kid Rock are so chivalrous! Kid was even cited at the after party. (MTV.com
and AP)
Kanye totally divas out, never to return. (Mtv.com)
Chris Brown turns major heads, and his
backup dancer comes close to smacking Shia LaBeouf in his.
Britney Blew It
Obviously, we all tuned
in to the VMAs tonight to see Brit-Brit kick it
"Slave 4 U" style. No such luck. SOOO
disappointed. Like, sooo. I didn't really
mind her terrible outfit, nor did I mind the
incredibly out-of-sync-lip-syncing (was anyone
expecting her to actually sing? Seriously, lets not
go crazy here). Rather, it was the dancing that broke
my heart. Brit's choreography lacked its signature
"umph." She spent the entire number touching her
hair, like she couldn't believe it was fake or
something. I know she must have been nervous, but she
had an opportunity to bring it tonight. Blew it!
Everyone at the pre-show was cheering her on, so
excited for a comeback! BLEW IT! Sadly, "Gimme More"
left me, and I'm sure many others, not really wanting
to see any more of the new Brit.
Here's how my
night with the VMAs played
out:
9:00-- The Brit heard 'round the
world. So. Bad.
9:05-- Sarah Silverman comes out for the
intro, makes everything worse for Spears, calls her
kids "the most adorable mistakes she's ever seen."
Who says that?
9:16-- Out of curiosity, I check to see if
Perezelle posted anything about
the opening number. Not yet. Hmm...
9:25-- Chris Brown and Rihanna perform, he
dances like Usher pumped up on a ton of caffeine.
He's good though. Fun Billie Jean cover!
9:30-- Check Perez again—Sometime in the last
14 minutes, he posted the following: "How bad was
Brit, Y'All?" The body says simply "Discuss."
9:47-- There are 1,825 comments in response
to Perez's post.
9:51-- 2,417 comments
9:56-- The Hills girls present an
award. I don't know which award, because I'm
distracted by LC's dark mauve-ish shade of lipstick.
Looks good on her! (More on this later)
9:57-- 2,754. Clearly, Perez's readers have
strong opinions on the Britney matter.
9:58-- JT and Timbaland have an on-stage
lovefest, JT says Chris Brown makes him feel old.
Riiiiiight.
10:02- I check out MTV's site, to see what
they have going on. As promised, the Brit ringtones are available.
Contact me and I'll let you
know how to record one of these yourself.
10:05- Shia LaBeouf makes a joke that no one
gets, especially Ludacris.
10:14- MTV.com posted Brit's performance. I
can't watch the whole thing again, but here it is in
case you missed it:
10:30-
3,513 comments on Perez's single-word post.
10:31- Rihanna's performing. Again.
10:36- Alicia Keyes covers George
Michael's "Freedom."
10:46- Jamie Foxx goes on a rant
about some fight between Kid Rock and Tommy Lee that
I totally missed and I don't know how. Jennifer
Garner announces the winner of the "Best New Artist"
category is 'Gym Class Fallout.' (Wha?)
10:49- Miss "Such As" South Carolina
can't read teleprompters either. Someone needs to
tell this chick the world is laughing at—
not with— her.
10: 57-
Mary J declares every day 'Dre Day' in the world of
music.
11:01- No, really... how did I miss
that fight? Apparently Kid Rock walked right up to
Tommy Lee and punched him in the schnoz.
11:05- Diddy helps the situation by
pointing out that rockers—not just rappers—fight each
other. He then, after announcing JT, Timbaland and
Nelly, invites us all up to his suite on the 32nd
floor of the Palms for an after party.
11:06- The trio close the show.
It's, of course, awesome, even though Nelly's voice
kind of sounds weirdly high-pitched.
11:25- Perez's comment tally=
4,451
Get Pumped!
The end-of-summer blues
can really hurt, but the buzz leading up to the VMAs
usually numbs the pain a bit. I can't wait to see it
all come together on Sunday— particularly Brit's
performance. (Can she shake it in a wig?) If you
didn't follow my twittering advice
from a few weeks ago, don't worry, you still have
a chance to get some insider information! Check
out the VMA Twitter page,
which I've been following religiously all week...
Moonman is my new BFF— who knew he had such a

Don't forget to look me up too!
Jay Teeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
Above: A close-up phone shot from when I went to JT's
show back in March
I'm sorry, but Mr. Justin Timberlake can put on a show. Tonight was the HBO premiere of his FutureSex/ LoveShow tour. Missed it? Relax... just don't forget to set the DVR for this Thursday at 8:30pm EST, when the encore will air. I promise, you'll thank me. JT's infectious melodies and Michael-Jackson-nouveau moves will leave you more jealous of Jessica Biel than you were when she was dating Derek Jeter.
Bruuuuuuuuuuce!!
Attention, Bruce fans! iTunes is offering free downloads of Bruce's new single, "Radio Nowhere." I've been listening to it since yesterday...it's obviously awesome. You can also pre-order his upcoming album for a bargain. Don't have iTunes? Download it here.
Under Mandy's Um-bah-rella, ella, ella
I heart Mandy Moore, and I'm willing
to ignore the fact that this song basically came out
last week— but girlfriend needs to come out with some
original material.

Coverage,
now this?
The Return of the Mix Tape

One of my favorite platforms for
self expression is playlist gifting. To me, there are
few things more thoughtful than telling a person what
tunes make you think of them, or new tracks you think
they'd dig. In the wake of our iWorld, however,
something about them has become less personable, less
romantic. Even though you can burn someone the
baddest CD, print a realistic cover complete with
personal pictures and present it in an actual jewel
case, modern playlist art doesn't hold a candle to
the coolness that was the old school mix tape. So,
you can imagine how psyched I was to find
this thing
whilst perusing my
favorite gadget sites this morning. Seriously, how
cool? Now, as soon as I download some Color Me
Badd, Salt 'n Pepa, and Kriss Kross, my new mixes
will feel totally
authentic.

Xanadu Rocks!
Last night, I experienced Xanadu for the first time ever. I had never seen the awesomely bad movie— it came out the year I was born, and I spent my high school and college years catching up on old classics like Stayin' Alive and Grease 2, so I never got around to it, I guess.
The glittery satire, which just opened this summer at the Helen Hayes Theater, features the amazing Kerry Butler as Kira, (the Olivia N-J part). Kerry's take on the skating Australian (and larger-than-herself vocals) inspired me to run to Blockbuster today so I could belt out the parts I loved/ check out the parts I didn't get. (They didn't have it in stock. Was it that bad? Didn't Gene Kelly play the old dude? Hello!)
If you're looking for a fun night on Broadway that won't make you cry (unless you want to), you must check it out! I promise you'll love it!
